In this Burlesque-drag-contortionist routine, Rebecca performs to Bruce Springsteen's pink cadillac. Her risqué performance explodes the sexual euphemism of the song. By performing what is merely being insinuated, Rebecca unveils the underlying misogyny of the song: objectifying female genitalia for male pleasure. Throughout the performance Rebecca's body is made to look like the car with head-light pasties, g-string reflectors, and chromed paneling. The car is not only a euphemism but also a stand in for the female body. The performance explores how technology becomes a surrogate for desire. |
