Rebecca’s dead toenails are starting to grow back.  Months after two of Rebecca’s toenails died and fell off they are starting to grow back.

The toenail on her second toe on her right foot started to die after a rock was dropped on it in July of this year.  The process was encouraged by strenuous hiking in boots that put pressure on said toenail.  “I knew it was dead”, remembers Nagle.  “It was discolored for weeks.  Only a little bit of it, towards the cuticle, was still attached.”  As the hardly attached toenail began to bother Nagle, she decided to cut if off.  One afternoon with tweezers and nail clippers Rebecca removed the troublesome toenail.

Underneath the dead toenail, Rebecca was surprised to find a layer of nail-like growth.  “Its not quite toenail and not quite skin,” says Nagle.  “It’s hard, but thinner than most toenails and kind of misshapen.”  Months later, the toenail is growing back.

New growth is coming in right after the weird, misshapen part.  “I thought that toenail was just going to be weird for awhile or forever.  But it looks like in a few months, it will grow back into a normal toenail."
