Every day for 85 days the artist memorized a name from the Baltimore White Pages. Each name was written on each page 50 times, after which each page was boiled from 30 minutes. No written record was kept of the names, save the artist’s memory. The image is from the performance of the recitation of the names. The only record of the names exists (or existed) in the artist memory, thus the piece has no physical location. Its intangible state challenges the assumed physical necessity of art making. |
